Leave blank for no explicit limit.

Add this tag to an HTML page head. Crawlers must be able to fetch the page to read it; this is not an access-control rule.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Choose indexing and link-following rules.
  2. Set snippet and image preview preferences.
  3. Copy the generated meta tag into the page HTML head.

Page-level HTML only

This generates a robots meta element for an HTML page. It does not generate robots.txt rules or the X-Robots-Tag HTTP response header used for non-HTML resources.

Crawler must access the page

A crawler can read this directive only when it can fetch the page. Blocking a URL in robots.txt can prevent the crawler from seeing a noindex tag; the tag is not access control and does not instantly remove an already indexed URL.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does noindex block crawling?

No. It requests that supported crawlers not index the page. The crawler must still be allowed to fetch it to see the tag.

Does this guarantee identical behavior in every search engine?

No. Directive support and interpretation vary by crawler. Check the documentation for the crawlers you target.
