Molar Flow Rate Calculator
Use one of two explicit calculation bases: ideal-gas volumetric flow at the stated conditions, or mass flow divided by molar mass. Optionally calculate one component flow from mole fraction.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose ideal-gas volume flow or mass-flow basis.
- Enter positive values with consistent units; ideal-gas pressure is absolute and temperature is in kelvin.
- Optionally enter a component mole fraction from 0 to 1, then calculate.
Ideal-gas basis
The estimate uses ṅ = QP/(RT). Provide absolute pressure, temperature in kelvin, and volume flow expressed at that same temperature and pressure.
Mass-flow basis
For mass flow, use ṅ = ṁ/M. Keep mass-flow and molar-mass units compatible, such as kg/s and kg/mol.

This is a formula calculator. It does not select process conditions or assess equipment or safety. Formula reference: University of Michigan, https://websites.umich.edu/~elements/7e/02chap/summary-example1.html
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Can I use gauge pressure?
No. Convert it to absolute pressure before entering it.
What does component flow mean?
When supplied, the result is multiplied by the entered mole fraction: ṅᵢ = yᵢ ṅ.
Are the results a process recommendation?
No. They are arithmetic estimates from the inputs and ideal-gas relationship.
