A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Choose one local PDF with digital highlight annotations.
  2. Scan up to 200 pages and review the page-grouped results.
  3. Copy or download the bounded plain-text summary.

Annotation scope

Only PDF annotation subtype Highlight is included. Colored text, drawn rectangles, and physical marker on scans are not detected.

Text source

When an annotation has a comment, the comment is exported. Otherwise PDF.js text boxes are compared with the highlight rectangle; complex transforms can make the text approximate or unavailable.

Local limits

Files up to 50 MB and 200 pages are processed locally. At most 2,000 highlights and 500,000 output characters are retained.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does it read physical highlighter marks?

No. A scan of marked paper has pixels, not a PDF Highlight annotation.

Is extracted passage text exact?

Not always. Annotation comments are direct; text without comments is a geometric approximation from embedded text boxes.

Is the PDF uploaded?

No. PDF.js reads it in this browser.
