Pipe Insulation Quantity Calculator

Estimate the material quantities around a pipe using its outer diameter, radial insulation thickness, and length.

Geometric quantity only; thickness needs separate heat-loss/condensation sizing. Fittings, supports, and product waste are excluded. Preformed sections are usually sold per pipe metre.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter the pipe outer diameter, insulation thickness, and pipe length.
  2. Calculate and review the insulation outside diameter, annulus area, volume, litres, and cladding area.

Geometric quantity only

This calculates geometry, not price. Insulation thickness needs separate heat-loss or condensation sizing. Ordinary fittings, supports, and product waste are not included. Preformed sections are usually sold per pipe metre.

Formula and units

Dᵢ = D + 2t (mm); A = π/4 × (Dᵢ² − D²) (mm²); V = A × 10⁻⁶ × L (m³); litres = V × 1000; cladding area = π × Dᵢ/1000 × L (m²).

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Does this size the insulation?

No. It calculates geometric quantities for a thickness you provide. Select thickness separately for heat-loss and condensation requirements.

Does it include fittings or waste?

No. Add allowances for fittings, supports, joints, and product waste separately.
