Shutter Angle Calculator
Use the motion-blur relationship θ = 360 × frame rate × exposure time for a camera planning estimate.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose whether to calculate angle or exposure time.
- Enter positive frame rate and the other two values within the allowed angle range.
- Review the result and camera-planning caveats.
Formula and source
Shutter angle θ in degrees = 360 × frame rate (frames/s) × exposure time (s). The RED KOMODO Operation Guide documents shutter angle and shutter speed controls; see RED KOMODO Operation Guide: https://red.com/download/955-0190_v1.3/955-0190_v1.3_REV-01_2_RED_PS_KOMODO_Operation_Guide.pdf
Planning limits
Frame rate must be positive and the angle must be greater than 0° and no more than 360°. This is a planning calculation, not a camera control or exposure guarantee.

GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Can I enter a fraction such as 1/48?
Yes. Enter a decimal exposure time in seconds, such as 0.0208333 for 1/48 s.
What does 180° mean?
At a given frame rate, 180° corresponds to an exposure time of one half of the frame interval.
Does this set my camera?
No. It only calculates the relationship between frame rate, exposure time, and shutter angle.
