Dot Art

Sample an image on a regular grid and draw black circles where brightness meets your threshold.

Local processing. Output fits 1600 px per edge and 2.5 million pixels. Radius must be no more than half the spacing. Transparent pixels become white; animation uses one frame. The PNG does not preserve source metadata.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Choose a JPEG or PNG up to 10 MiB and 12 million pixels.
  2. Set threshold, dot radius and spacing.
  3. Create a preview and download the PNG.

Bounded local processing

The image stays in your browser. Output is scaled to at most 1600 px per edge and 2.5 million pixels, without upscaling. No external assets or uploads are used.

Adjust the dots

Threshold accepts 0–255, radius 1–12 px, and spacing 10–64 px. Spacing must be at least twice the radius. Fewer than 100,000 dot paths are drawn.

PNG output

Transparent pixels are flattened onto white and animated PNG uses one frame. A new PNG is encoded without source metadata, profiles or original encoding.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Is this a vector or text result?

No. The result is a raster PNG with black dots on white.

Are images uploaded?

No. Decoding, drawing and PNG export stay in your browser.

What does the threshold do?

Samples with luminance at or below the threshold receive a dot. Increasing it usually creates more dots.
