Earth Volume Calculator
Estimate topsoil, fill or excavation volume from area and average layer thickness.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Enter the two values with the displayed units.
- Calculate the result.
- Copy the report or download it as TXT.
Formula and units
Volume (m³) = area (m²) × average thickness (cm) ÷ 100. Both inputs must be at least 0.
Average layer thickness
Use an average depth for the whole measured area. Separate irregular sections when a single average is not representative. A volume in cubic metres is not a mass.
Scope
This is an average prism approximation for topsoil, fill or excavation. It excludes slope geometry, bulking, shrinkage, compaction and density. It provides no soil or construction recommendation.
