A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Choose 1–40 .md or .markdown files, up to 5 MiB each and 20 MiB total.
  2. Enter a literal word or phrase up to 200 characters and choose whether capitalization must match.
  3. Search the files and review or export the matching paragraphs.

Search selected files only

The file picker accepts .md and .markdown files. Search uses a literal substring, optionally case-sensitive; it does not interpret Markdown syntax, regular expressions, or search the file name. File contents are read in this browser and are not uploaded.

Locate paragraphs and lines

Nonempty blocks are separated by blank lines; fenced code blocks keep their internal blank lines together. A result reports the block number, original line range, occurrence count, and a text excerpt. Very long excerpts are shortened for display.

Local size limits

Select 1–40 files, up to 5 MiB each and 20 MiB total. The search term is limited to 200 characters and at most 2,000 matching blocks are displayed; the report tells you when more matches exist.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Are my files uploaded?

No. Selected files are read locally in your browser.

Does it search Markdown formatting or code?

It searches the text literally, including headings, lists, and code. It does not render Markdown or understand its syntax.

Can I search my whole computer?

No. You must select the Markdown files to include. The tool cannot access other folders or hidden files on its own.
