A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Paste up to 100,000 characters.
- Choose whole-text or per-line processing.
- Remove one matching outer pair and review the unchanged inner text.
One pair, exact edges
The tool removes one pair only when the first and last characters form the same recognized pair: straight single or double quotes, curly quotes, guillemets, German low-high quotes, or CJK corner brackets. Internal quote characters are never changed.
Escapes and unmatched marks stay visible
An outer quote preceded by an odd run of backslashes is treated as escaped and is not removed. Unmatched, mixed, or differently styled outer marks are left exactly as entered. Input is limited to 100,000 characters; processing is local.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Are inner quotes removed?
No. Only one matching pair at the outermost character positions is considered.
What happens to escaped outer quotes?
A quote preceded by an odd number of backslashes is treated as escaped, so the pair is left unchanged.
What if the quotes do not match?
The value is returned unchanged, including unmatched or mixed quote marks.
