Bytes to String Converter
Paste a byte representation, choose its format, and read the decoded text with byte and character counts.
A QUICK WALKTHROUGH
How to use this tool
- Choose decimal, hexadecimal, binary, or Base64 input.
- Paste the byte values or encoded data.
- Decode and review the UTF-8 text and size statistics.
Byte formats
Decimal values are separated by spaces, commas, or line breaks. Hexadecimal values may use an optional 0x prefix, binary values must be 8 bits each, and Base64 accepts standard padded Base64 with optional whitespace.
Strict UTF-8
Bytes are decoded with the browser TextDecoder in fatal mode. Invalid UTF-8 sequences are rejected instead of being replaced with U+FFFD.
Local and bounded
The conversion runs in this browser and accepts up to 262,144 bytes. The result reports encoded byte count, Unicode code points, and UTF-16 code units.
GOOD TO KNOW
Common questions
Are hex and Base64 encodings the same thing?
No. Hexadecimal and Base64 are different textual representations of the same underlying bytes. Choose the format that matches your input.
Why was my input rejected?
Every value must be a valid byte in the selected format, Base64 must have valid characters and padding, and the decoded bytes must form valid UTF-8.
Does the tool upload my data?
No. Parsing and UTF-8 decoding happen locally in this browser.
