Treadmill Incline Pace Calculator

Enter treadmill speed and incline to estimate VO₂ with the ACSM running equation and calculate an equivalent flat pace.

In-browser processingNo account requiredPrivacy details ↗

ACSM equation: VO₂ = 3.5 + 0.2v + 0.9vG; v is m/min and G is decimal grade. Estimate only; applicable running conditions are limited. This is not training, medical, or diagnostic advice.

A QUICK WALKTHROUGH

How to use this tool

  1. Enter treadmill speed and incline percentage.
  2. Calculate estimated VO₂ and the flat running speed at the same estimate.
  3. Read the equivalent pace and the calculation limits before using the result.

ACSM running equation

For running, v is speed in metres per minute and G is grade as a decimal: VO₂ = 3.5 + 0.2v + 0.9vG. The equivalent flat pace solves the same equation with G = 0.

Interpretation limits

This is a simplified estimate for steady running. It does not account for individual physiology, surface, treadmill calibration, wind, fatigue, or walking. It is not training, medical, or diagnostic advice.

GOOD TO KNOW

Common questions

Is this a training prescription?

No. It is a local equation calculator and does not provide training or medical advice.

What does incline mean?

Enter the treadmill incline as a percentage, such as 5 for 5%; the tool converts it to grade 0.05.
