AES-256 PDF encryption
QPDF writes an encrypted PDF using 256-bit PDF encryption. Compatibility depends on the reader supporting modern PDF encryption; this is not a substitute for secure password generation or key management.
Password stays on this device
The file and password are processed in a browser worker and are not sent to a server or stored by this site. Use a unique password and keep it in a password manager.
What encryption does not do
Encryption does not remove metadata or guarantee document integrity, and it cannot stop an authorized recipient from copying content after opening it. Rewriting may affect signatures, forms, or advanced features; keep the original.

Which encryption is applied?
The tool uses the QPDF library to create a PDF with 256-bit encryption. Some old PDF readers may not support this format.
Is my file uploaded?
No. Encryption runs locally in a browser worker.
Does a password prevent screenshots or copying?
No. A password controls opening the PDF. It cannot prevent someone who can open it from capturing or copying displayed content.
